Newlywed Shoot at Petrie Island
Mary and Ryan were my giveaway winners from a 2 hour couples photoshoot I posted in the spring. We knew we wanted to do a beach photoshoot, and when it came down to options, Petrie Island was the best choice!
We arrived about an hour and a half before sunset so we could get some golden hour softer light before the sky started to change and we lost more natural light. It was my first time ever shooting at Petrie Island, and I’m so glad we did! Though it was a busy day, there’s many little pockets of privacy you can find along the water that are perfect for couples photos. The main beach is divided after a rocky pier into a smaller beach for boat launches, and we had it all to ourselves!
With a 2 hour engagement shoot, we had the time to try out all sorts of compositions. We had some classic walking along the beach shots, some sitting on cool driftwood along the shore, some more forest-y picnic-inspired shoots, and of course (my favourite) splashing around in the water! I even got my feet in the water to get closer to the movement of the couple in the water. PSA: If you’re doing a beach photoshoot with me, I will always recommend getting in the water near the end! It genuinely creates some of the happiest, silliest, and romantic moments that translate beautifully in photos. So as long as you’re comfy - get ready to get wet!
What made this shoot even more special was that Mary and Ryan actually had gotten married just before our shoot, so instead of a engagement shoot, it became a newlywed shoot! I loved capturing the pure love of these two alongside that giddy feeling of having just gotten married.
We ended our shoot with some beautiful sunset photos as the sun went down. The whole time we were shooting I had my eyes on the seagulls flying around the water, and I knew I wanted to try a shot with the seagulls flying overhead as the sun set. I was lucky to get this shot and it turned out better than I could have imagined.
Congratulations Mary and Ryan, the newlyweds. I had the best time splashing around in the water and getting sand everywhere! I’m pretty sure I had just as much fun as them dancing around and capturing their love.
